AN OVERVIEW OF THE AXIAL VECTOR ENERGY COMPANY AND PRODUCTS

HISTORY AND DISCUSSION

Dr. Karl Hermann created the original linear power transmission design concept during World War II. It had subsequent use by the US navy as a pneumatic drive in the mk 46 torpedoes. A brief description of the physical and mechanical aspects of his linear drive will be helpful to begin to understand the uniqueness and it's superiority to the standard engine power drive.

In a linear drive there are two opposing pistons in every cylinder. The pistons in their cylinders are uniformly distributed around the circumference of the drive shaft and move back and forth in a smooth linear motion, parallel drive shaft. This is the axial transfer of energy from the pistons. This is balanced configuration.

In a standard drive there is only one piston per cylinder. The cylinders are located on one side and perpendicular to the drive shaft. This results in an unbalanced engine. You experience this condition as vibration or rocking when you start your car.

In a linear drive, power is transferred to the drive shaft through a sinusoidal cam which is located midway between opposite ends of all of the cylinders. If viewed from above, it would appear as a continuous raised undulating thick metal band in the shape of a sine wave located in the middle of the drive shaft. If viewed from the end of the drive shaft, it would essentially appear as raised thick metal band that is shaped approximately like hills and valleys. The piston transfers it's linear or axial energy to a roller bearing, which is rolling along the sinusoidal cam riding up a hill or down a hill on the cam causing the drive shaft to rotate. This is a vector transfer of a linear axial force.

In the standard engine drive, the energy from the up and down movement of the pistons is transferred to the crank shaped drive shaft through linear rotational motion, to a bearing, and then simply cranks the drive shaft. It is the rotational aspect of the piston movement in the standard drive, which causes engine wear, and a relative short operational life compared to linear drive or "Axial Vector Engines".

  • The Linear Power Transmission is ideally suited for high-pressure applications such as internal combustion engines since inherent characteristics of the reciprocating pistons move in perfect balance along the drive shaft, creating a simple harmonic balance.
  • This technology breakthrough was the first to achieve 90% efficiency.
  • In the 1960's General Motors (GM) adapted the Linear Power Transmission for its air conditioning compressors, still in use today.
  • Following the war Dr. Herrmann continued his work with Linear Power Technology and was successful in creating an engine that was certified by the United States Federal Aviation Administration for flying light aircraft in 1957. We still have the original engine and demonstrate it to prospective partners.
  • In 2004 we acquired the rights to Dr. Herrmann's intellectual property and all engine prototypes. A redesign and material upgrade of one of the original engines evolved into the Axial Vector Gas-Cam Engine. The following is a technical over-view of the Gas-Cam Axial Vector Engine (AVE) for marine applications.
  1. The "Gas-Cam" is a four-stroke engine that burns gasoline and is especially designed for marine applications.
  2. The Gas-Cam has substantially fewer parts than conventional engines. This results in an engine that is at least 50% lighter and about half the size of a regular engine.
  3. With substantially fewer parts, maintenance and repair bills are dramatically and pleasantly reduced.
  4. The Gas-Cam produces 3.0 ft-lb of torque per HP versus 1.0 to 1.7 ft-lb per HP in conventional engines. Torque is the amount of rotational power in the drive shaft, which performs the work. Therefore, a smaller Gas-Cam is capable of doing more work than a conventional engine of the same horsepower.
  5. The torque produced by a Gas-Cam is sufficiently powerful to eliminate the need for a transmission. Direct drive with a clutch is sufficient.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON AXIAL VECTOR ENERGY CORPORATION NEW TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENTS

NEW DIESEL / MULTI FUEL ENGINES

We are in the final stages of dynameters test trials performance data gathering in Detroit on our prototypical 8 cylinder, 7.2, 352HP "Work Horse" diesel /multi fuel engine which produces 1,140 ft lbs of torque.

This engine and the Gas-Cam engine share many common design features. A sinusoidal cam rather than a crankshaft was used to convert the linear motion of the pistons into rotational motion in the drive shaft. The engine contains substantially fewer parts and therefore is much lighter than an equivalent conventional engine. This engine has a very high torque of 3.2 ft-lb per HP. This is 75% greater than an equivalent displacement 7.2 liter 6 cylinder Caterpillar diesel engine. The fuel performance is also better than the Caterpillar. This AVE engine is designed for 40,000 hours of operation between major overhauls. If this engine was placed in a truck, and it was driven at 50mph, you could expect to travel 2,000,000 miles before the next overhaul or 75 trips around this planet. A Digital Signal Processor manages this engines performance. There is a number of interesting new features design into this new AVE engine.

NEW GENERATORS
We are also in the final stages of testing our unique 100KW prototype, coreless, axial flux, and permanent magnet generator. Congenital generators use large internal coils of copper wire to convert rotational motion to electricity. The axial flux generators use only rare earth permanent magnets. This generator is 97% to 98% efficient in converting mechanical (rotational) movement into electrical energy.

NEW GENSETS
A GENSET is a freestanding machine, which is capable of generating, and regulating the electricity it produces at any desired land based location on the planet. It is a combination of a fuel powered engine and an electric generator. We have seamlessly integrated our new "Workhorse" multi fuel / diesel engine with two of the 100kw coreless generators to create one of the most efficient GENSETS on the planet. This GENSET uses advanced digital control systems to manage both component units and electric output. It is capable of producing a wide range of desired voltages for any application.

NEW ELECTRIC MOTORS
A generator is an electric motor. Rotate its shaft and it will generate electricity. Apply an external source of electricity to the generator and it becomes an electric motor. The amount of power produced or consumed determines the use of these devices. A 100kw generator is also a 133HP electric motor, which is too powerful for most common applications. A 1/2 HP electric motor is also a 375-watt generator. This is too small for generator applications but useful for powering numerous applications.

The coreless high power density and energy efficient generators has lent itself to the creation of a new design product line of considerably smaller ultra-efficient electric motors spanning a wide range of HP. The significantly lower operating cost of these motors, typically 35% to 55%, will make them very popular in applications from industrial to residential. A typical apartment in the USA contains 5 electric motors involved in various applications. The typical house has more than ten. A common list of residential applications is included to remind you of your potential savings and scope of our potential sales market. The list includes; air conditioners, air handlers, washing machines, clothes dryers, refrigerators, freezers, ceiling fans, stove hoods, garbage disposals, blenders, food processors, ice makers, food mixers, electric knives, food slices, bathroom ceiling fans, hair dryers, etc.

LINEAR SCALABILITY
These company products were designed with the same program used by Boeing to design Jumbo Jets. It allows us to design as well test the performance in cyber space of all products.

After a product prototype passes rigorous physical testing and verification the design is frozen. The UGS computer program will allow us to produce hundreds of variations of the same design with different outputs with a few clicks of the mouse.
